Chabad House-Lubavitch: What Does it Mean?

The purpose of Chabad Lubavitch is to acquaint every Jewish individual and those interested in Judaism with all the richness of the Judaism. Chabad approaches this purpose based on the concept of “Ahavas Yisroel” meaning the love and concern for our fellow Jews. The goal is to reach out to everyone wherever she or he may be, and to offer them spiritual, physical, and emotional assistance.

Chabad Lubavitch of Central Florida is staffed knowledgeable and creative Chassidic Rabbis, Rebbitzins, and staff, who have dedicated their lives to spreading Judaism. Under the direction of the revered Lubavitcher Rebbe, they spread the light of Torah to all corners of the world. Their selfless dedication enables them to accomplish monumental achievements in areas where others have been unable. Chabad tries to stem the tide of indifference, alienation, and assimilation by motivating the individual to enrich their experiences of Judaism—be it by helping a university student find Jewish meaning—bringing holiday joy to the elderly—by supplying genuine Jewish Education to young children—by offering a welcoming hand to newly-arrived Jewish immigrants—by providing guidance and education to young and old--by offering alternatives to drug addicted youth.

For the past thirty years, the Chabad Houses have been serving the Jewish communities of Central Florida, strengthening Judaism and bringing our ancient and beautiful heritage to all, wherever they may be, regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations.

The Chabad Houses serves the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa where there is an approximate population of 5,000 Jewish students. The able bodied staff is headed by Rabbi Lazer Rivkin, Regional Director, and Rebbitzin Devorah N. Rivkin and by Rabbi Uriel Rivkin, Director Chabad House USF and Rebbitzin D'vorki Rivkin.

With the dictum of “Let My People Know,” The Chabad Houses successfully provide their communities with comprehensive Jewish programs and inspiration. Established February 18, 1976, they are now celebrating their thirtieth anniversary.
